This book contains easy answers to fundamental questions of life. I read it through in 2 days for the first time in 1973. I had just started with Transcendental Meditation (TM) and was fascinated by the easy answers to questions belonging to the whole life. Meanwhile I still pracitce TM and when I read different sections now, I find the the same ageless truth as in 1973. But now I have the experience that you really can change your life fundamentally. This book is not only theoretical but also very practical.

As a method for reducing stress, meditation has become a mainstream phenomenon in American culture. This insightful collection of teachings includes everything from the timeless wisdom of the Buddha to the Zen simplicity of Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh. Perfect for even the novice, this book offers an historical background, as well as practical steps, to applying meditation to one's life.

Amazon.com's Spirituality and Inspiration Editor's Recommended Book, 02/01/98:

The reasons why we meditate are, paradoxically, both deeply individual and profoundly universal. This is precisely why the collection of essays in Breath Sweeps Mind is such an effective tool for teaching mediation. Each unique voice, from Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh to American poet Gary Snyder, speaks eloquently from personal experience. Yet the collection hangs together by a golden thread of purpose--helping readers obtain their highest spiritual and human capacities. Breath Sweeps Mind is excellently paced and edited, clearly speaking to the nitty-gritty tools and techniques (such as which clothes to wear and what to do with your tongue and hands) as well as the inherent rewards of meditation.
