Silence and Deeds

Mother Teresa, A Simple Path: Mother Teresa. (Sister Theresina and Sister Kateri, p. 25): From what I have found, there is just too much noise in modern life--and because of this many people are afraid of silence. As God speaks only in silence, this is a big problem for those searching for God. Many young people, for instance, act instinctively and don't know how to reflect.

James 2:18-22, The Message: The New Testament in Contemporary English, Peterson, p. 481.Dear friends, do you think you'll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, "Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spririt!" and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup--where does that get you? Isn't it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?

Darshan, #112, 1996Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, p. 44. Just watch yourself every day. The moment you start watching yourself, things become different.
