Inestimable Value of Each One

Everyone has the vocation of making perfect something in this world. The world has need of every single human being. Rabbi Barukh, in Martin Buber, The Tales of the Hasidim, at 90.

There are many different gifts, but it is always the same Spirit; there are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord. There are many different forms of activity, but in everybody it is the same God who is at work in them all. The particular manifestation of the Spirit granted to each one is to be used for the general good. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, New Jerusalem Bible.

Perform your own duty, perform your own actions, no matter how hard they are. Just as the dharma, the duty, of the eyes is to see, and the dharma of the ears is to hear, in the same way, every human being has his or her own dharma that must be followed. Swami Chidvilasananda, 114 Darshan 43.

In the Baha'i view, the purpose of this life on earth is for each individual to develop the spiritual and moral qualities that lie at the core of his or her nature. Baha'u'llah referred to the human being as a "mine rich in gems of inestimable value." God, Faith and Immortality, Baha'i Web Site.
