120. John5 Fowler (John4, John3, (Capt.) William2, William1) was born in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut 7 February 1718. John died 14 May 1781 in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut, at age 63.

He married Mary Newton 9 December 1742 in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut.(196) Mary was born before 18 February 1721/2 in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut. She was the daughter of Fletcher Newton and Hannah Platt. Mary died 28 March 1774 in Milford, New Haven Co., Connecticut, at age 52. He was called Ensign and lived on the same spot where his father and grandfather lived. John succeeded his father as town clerk in 1756 and held that office until 1774. He was commissioned Captain by the Legislature, "Capt. of 2nd Co. trainband in the 2nd Regt." to raise troops for the Continental Army. May 8, 1775, voted that Capt. John Fowler and Ephraim Strong represent the town in the General Assembly and petition to have a Company, enlisted and commissioned to be stationed in the town for its defense.
