Health Policy Research Fellowship Program in Disability and Medical Rehabilitation

Basic Information
The Georgetown Public Institute (GPPI) at Georgetown University and the National Rehabilitation Hospital Research Center (NRH-RC) in Washington, D.C., are pleased to announce the availability of a master's level fellowship opportunity in the area of health policy with a focus on disability and medical rehabilitation issues.

The Health Policy Fellowship Program in Disability and the Medical Rehabilitation provides an opportunity for people with spinal cord injury or dysfunction to obtain the graduate level credentials necessary for leadership positions in health policy research and development.

This fellowship is a 2-year academic program leading to a master's degree in public policy from Georgetown University, with applied research experience gained at the NRH-RC. The fellowship award will provide two years of tuition (approximately $17,000 per academic year) plus a monthly stipend of $850.

To qualify for this fellowship applicants must (1) meet all eligibility for admission to the GPPI, (2) demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in disability health policy for at least 2 years after completing the GPPI, and (3) have a spinal cord dysfunction.

The Health Policy Fellowship Program has four components: (1) formal course work comprising the core GPPI courses with electives in health economics and health policy research, (2) a reading program directed by the NRH-RC staff that focuses on health policy issues in physical disability and medical rehabilitation, (3) a research practicum culminating in at least one publishable manuscript to be completed at the NRH-RC under the supervision of a senior researcher, and (4) fellowship seminars on health policy issues and research progress.

Accessibility
Georgetown University is accessible and exceeds the compliance standards of both 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Georgetown University's Office of Student Affairs will work with students who need additional accommodation. All facilities at the NRH-RC are fully accessible including accessible work sites for wheelchair users.

This fellowship is funded by the National Rehabilitation Hospital Research Center through a grant from the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA).

About the Georgetown Public Policy Institute
The GPPI is a professional degree program designed to instill the analytical wherewithal and the understanding of human values so essential to good governance. Approximately 80 new full-time students are enrolled each fall. The GPPI boasts a renowned full-time faculty. In addition, faculty are drawn from other Georgetown University departments and from an exceptional pool of senior researchers and national policy makers. Classes are seminar style and scheduled for afternoons and evenings to accommodate student internships.

About the NRH Research Center
The NRH-RC provides research leadership on the major clinical and policy issues that affect Americans with disabilities and serves as a catalyst for the development of new ideas for disability and health policy in the nation's capital. Research at the NRH-RC covers a broad spectrum of topics including the demography and epidemiology of disabling conditions, the financing and organization of health care delivery systems, health care utilization and costs, health outcomes, health care reform, biomedical ethics, and other topics related to the health and well-being of people with disabilities.
