Disability in the News. Bills veteran LB Chris Spielman to miss month of training camp.Updated 9:07 PM ET July 10, 1998 Buffalo Bills linebacker Chris Spielman, who suffered a career-threatening spinal cord injury in October, will miss the first month of training camp pending the results of a CAT scan on August 22nd. The 32-year-old Spielman, a four-time Pro Bowler during an 11-year career, is trying to work his way back from neck fusion surgery stemming from an October 20th injury suffered against the Indianapolis Colts. "The doctors say I'm 95 percent healthy," Spielman said. "I'm looking forward to a full recovery and to rejoining the Bills later this summer." Spielman played in every regular-season game for Detroit from 1991-95, followed by a full season for Buffalo in 1996 after signing with the Bills as a free agent. He had a team-record and career-high 206 tackles in his first year in Buffalo.
