It saddens me deeply to be addressing you people for the last time in the 1998 season
as your faithful webmaster. It saddens me even deeper, however, that The Royal Scam,
The MarCranians, and Zero the Hero are walking away with a hefty chunk of change at our
expense. But alas, there is always next year!
A heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS goes out to The Royal Scam, who despite the pressure of
controversy and the underdog status (and the fact that theirs was the only team without
representation at the JFL draft), overcame the odds and stole the First Annual JFL
Crown. The Scam maintained the cardinal rule of fantasy play, which is to stick with
the guys that get you there. Despite the tenuous nature of Steve Young's projected
playing time this past week, The Scam threw him into the game (although not before
seriously considering starting new recruit Kent Graham). Young, per usual, notched
47 points, tallying another Scam victory and making him the highest point scorer in JFL
history (696 points - only 1 other broke 600 (Randall Cunningham at 601) and two others
broke 500 (Terrell Davis at 539 and Brett Favre at 535)). The 33-point differential
between the contenders was both the largest and smallest margin of victory in league
history. For the pre-game favorite, Zero the Hero had a serious chance to bring home
both the ring and the Overall Points title, but fell short with the unspectacular play of
his unprepared squad. The MarCranians, meanwhile, somehow managed to hold their
lead, grabbing 30% of the pot. Go Barry!!!
Anyhow, thanks a lot for everyone in making this my most memorable JFL year. I
hope that everyone intends on returning next year. I will send an email out when
this site is updated with projected rules or suggestions for next year. Please feel
free to contact me or Zero during the offseason with any league amendments that you would
like to see implemented. Also, good luck to all teams participating in the Playoff
Circle. Take care...
