Farrakhan
defends Confederate flag
Nation of Islam
leader Louis Farrakhan has defended the Confederate flag as an integral
part of American History. Farrakhan came to Richmond yesterday
to promote his Million Family March in Washington on October 16th.
Gilmore
discloses northern Virginia transportation plans
Governor
Jim Gilmore has unveiled a $14-million transportation package for
northern Virginia. Gilmore also said that the opposed 12-lane
Woodrow Wilson Bridge replacement is in trouble. The governor
said federal authorities keep adding new "bells and whistles"
to the project, raising its cost.

Sports,
Danny Peoples
led Buffalo as the Bisons rolled to a 13-to-5 victory over Richmond.
Peoples had a sacrifice fly in the first inning last night.
A run-scoring double in the send, a two -run single in the sixth,
and a solo homer in the ninth. Jeff Mantos stroked a three-run
home in the second. It was another bad outing for Richmond's
Steve Avery. He gave up ten runs on eight hits in five and
a third innings.
The Washington
Redskins have signed rookie tackle Chris Samuels to a contract worth
$5 million. Samuels signed the seven-year deal Monday night
and joined the team for practice yesterday. Second overall
pick Lavar Arrington and Pro Bowl running back Stephen Davis are
still unsigned.
