Comments:
I was invited to participate
in Rick Kern's El Paso Border's Legend's event at the Lancer's
Club in El Paso on Oct. 16th. This second annual event featured
performances by (Grammy-nominated) Karen Taylor-Good, Patty
Tiscareño, Rod Crosby, Moon Pie, Bobby and the Premiers,
the Sojourners and many others. Most of the performances I
would consider "world class" particularly Karen
Taylor-Good and Patty Tiscareño and of course Rod Crosby's
classic renditions of Buddy Holly and Bobby Fuller. Charlie
McDonald and Zoomer were very accomplished and you could tell
that they never stopped playing. I assisted the Sojourner's
(Ron and Sue and Randy Jones) and it was a great time for
all. It celebrated the hay day of live music in El Paso. The
Bar was at a high level and I was humbled by it.
Dalton Powell and Cathy's
party the next day was one of the best outdoor jams I've ever
attended. My hat's off to Rick, Rod Crosby, Dalton and the
other's who put on these events.
I hope that we don't forget
our roots and continue to support live music in spite of these
recessionary times. It makes us feel a lot better.
