1) U.S. Exporters vs Coming from Behind played on 04/19/11
Acting Manager Dennis Potter reports: "Solid on both sides of the ball. 2-0 as manager on the season. Bungalow time!" [See photo HERE]
Jason Boyd reports:"4 homerun night"
I didn’t get to the field until the end of game 2 and got 1 swing. The report I heard was that they were really a B-level team. They hit their 3 HRs in the first inning of both games. I saw them hit 4 more in game 2 for outs. I would guess that Glen set some record for inducing the most homers for outs. He was rumored to have about 6 in each game.
In game one, we didn’t score enough to win. The outfielders had a difficult time in the tall grass and tire tracks. The outfield was in poor shape with tire ruts and clumped grass. Max Wagenblast hit a timely 3-run homer to lift us back into the game, but it wasn’t enough.
In the second game, the Exporters came roaring out in the first inning scoring 6 despite giving away 2 outs to pick-offs at second base. Rich Bernstein got us going in the 4th inning when we exploded for 9 runs. He hit a liner that skipped by the outfielder and went to the fence. Rich was able to scoot all the way around the bases before beating the throw to the plate. Scott Chatterton then hit a 2-run blast to the road that would have cleared any fence in Arlington. Entering the bottom of the last inning, we were chasing 2. Wes Yeary hit a solo shot to bring us within one. Singles by Jim Duffy and Skylar Senius brought Jason Boyd to the plate with one out. He flew out to right field to advance Jim to third. Scott then ended the game with a high shot over the right-center field fence for a walk-off, 3-run homer.
The Exporters showed moxy coming from behind to steal a win right in the last inning. Dan “Crazy Legs” Mitchell put on a great show for all those in attendance with his unique base-running skills (or lack thereof). Never known for his speed, Dan ran through the stop sign on third. However, after he was 3/4 of the way home decided to stop and return to third. The pitcher had the cutoff throw and ran at Dan to initiate a rundown. However, Dan mesmerized the player with his indecision by starting and stopping in each direction without breaking either way. Finally, he changed his mind, yet again, and headed for home. However, once again his indecision of whether to standup or slide confused the catcher. Ultimately, Dan went with a collapse on the plate causing the catcher to forget to catch the ball. Dan was safe. After taking the field in the last inning to defend the lead, Glen Maes ended the game by striking out the last batter, his second of the game.
In the second game, the Exporters jumped out to a fast early lead. . . and I do mean fast. Glen recorded the first 8 outs with only 10 pitches!
5) U.S. Exporters vs Gray Plant Mooty on 05/24/11
The controversy... Dennis Potter and the umpire had exchanged words all night. In the last inning with us down two runs, we had runners on first and third with 2 outs. Dennis comes to the plate. First pitch hit the dirt six inches outside the plate. Dennis simply pointed at the landing spot with his bat. He did not say anything. The umpire throws him out of the game, declares it the third out and announces game over.
Jason Boyd reports:"Thanks to Dennis Potter for getting ejected to end the game in bottom of the last inning down by 2, 2 on, and me on deck. Jackwagon!"
The rained out games from 5/17 have been rescheduled for 6/28 and the same time and place.
We scrambled to get bodies to the field in time forcing changes in the line up. The bats came alive for an inning and helped us cruise to a victory in game 1. In the nightcap, we hit the ball hard early using up all 3 HR’s in the first two innings. This cost Skylar Senius a home run in the fifth inning when he blasted a ball over the left center fence for the final out of the inning. Werner Ennesser got the final two outs of the game by holding on to a foul-tip and then springing from the plate to nab a foul pop up to end the game.
In game 1 Rich Bernstein pitched 3 innings, walked 6 and struck out none. Glen Maes replaced him in the 4th inning, walked 1 and struck out 1.
In game 2 we had Corey Johnson and Jim Duffy swap positions. We had 3 double plays in the 4 innings. We used all 3 HRs and Roger Morse hit a Potter (deep shot that hits the fence, but not over). Glen pitched innings 1, 2 and 4, walked 1 and struck out 1. Jason Boyd pitched the 3rd inning and walked 4.
9) U.S. Exporters vs Dawgs played on 06/21/11
The Dawgs forfeited about an hour after the county closed the fields. I guess they didn't check the weather line before calling to forfeit.
As you recall, we had a no rain rainout. Around 3:30, the county said all the fields were open except Barcroft and Virginia Highlands #4 (our field). At about 5pm, the county updated the inclement weather line to announce that Barcroft would be open for play, but our field would be the only field closed that night. Sometime in between, the Dawgs notified the league they were forfeiting the games to us. That's right, they forfeited AFTER the games were postponed. Thus, we win and no makeup games. We are now in 4th place with a record of 11 - 7.
Werner Ennesser reports:"...the Exporters finished the regular season by splitting the double header to end the season with a 12 and 8 record. This puts us in the playoffs which will begin in the next few weeks."
1) U.S. Exporters vs CCSP Empty Pitchers & 2) U.S. Exporters vs The Republic, both played on 07/12/11
Winner's bracket, baby! We won both games including last inning come from behind win over #1 seed. We play for hardware on Saturday!
Jason Boyd: "[I have] determined that hitting 3 run homers in the last inning to win playoff games is a good time."
Dennis Potter: "That formula only works if the #2 hitter comes up with clutch 2-out hits in front of the #3 batter...."
Jason Boyd: "Especially when said #2 hitter hasnt been ejected from the game."
Dennis Potter: "An ejection in that spot would've been last out of the inning.....that's never happened...."
Dennis Potter: "Nice wins, Exporters! Bungalow!!!"

Post Season Tournament
Werner Ennesser: "Last night the Exporters started the Playoffs with a 2-0 record as we defeated the Empty pitchers (4th seed) and The Republic (1st seed).
Defense was very strong last night for the Exporters and our offense was wide open putting a bunch of runs on the board. Jason Boyd made his managerial debut and
put together a great line up to get us off to a 2-0 start. Jason and Scott Chatterton played long ball again last night as well. "
3) U.S. Exporters vs Arlington Metz & 4) U.S. Exporters vs Arlington Metz, both played on 07/16/11Jay Hatfield: "The U.S. Exporters softball team won their sixth post-season tournament by thoroughly sweeping away the opposition on
