After the June 13, 2000 games, it was my honor and privilege to announce that Jim Foti and Kevin Gary have been added to the U.S. Exporters Hall of Fame. Jim Foti will probably be the last of the coed team players to be added to the team HOF. Jim was scouted on the Monument Grounds playing in a Commerce League game in 1989, and was soon invited to join the team. He was given the nickname "Iron Man" because he was, quite possibly, the most frequently injured man in the history of the team. A year could not go by without some kind of broken bone or severed nerve from Jim. His other nickname, "the Rattler," originated due to a famous game played in 1999. Please visit the tribute written by and for our friend, Jim Foti. Kevin Gary first came to our team in 1994 when we were in desperate shape. Mark Prebich, the team's power hitter, was out of action for a whole season because of a jaw operation, but Kevin stepped in during his rookie season and made an immediate impact. When Mark rejoined the team in 1995, the two of them constituted one of the most powerful "one-two punches" in team history. In 1995 Kevin left the area for Arizona to earn his doctorate, but he remained one of the most popular players ever to don the U.S. Exporter's "Royal Blues." When he returned to the Washington area in 1999 he was welcomed back to the team with opened arms. He then proceeded to lead the team in home runs one season, and in RBI the next! Please visit the tribute written for our friend, Kevin Gary. Congratulations to Jim Foti and Kevin Gary: Two men for whom this team can be especially proud! |
