"A connection was established but it was an unreliable connection and was terminated"
Causes
This error is generally generated by one of six conditions:
- The user-id or password is entered incorrectly in the customer's system (the password must be entered exactly as it is on our receipts-- upper AND lower-case), or has been cancelled.
- The user is not in our authentication servers.
- Some modems (like Practical Peripherals, for instance) do not support Flow Control. Set Flow Control to "None" in these cases.
- If the customer has AOL software installed (or has ever had AOL installed), they probably have an extension called TCPack for AOL or AOL Link in the Extensions folder. Drag both of these files onto the Desktop and restart.
- The port speed may be set too high or too low.
- Believe it or not, this can be caused by having a FAX machine on the same line as the modem, the computerized phone systems in most offices or even just line noise on the customer's in-house wiring (ie splicing extra phone jacks in themselves). Go figure.
