"Link Dead"


What it is

Sounds bad, doesn't it? Actually, all this is is an authentication failure, and (more often than not) is seen immediately after the "PPP close timeout" error message.



What to do

  1. Go up to the menu, choose "Control Panels" and bring up the "ConfigPPP"
  2. Click on "Config..." You will see this:

  3. Verify that the username and password listed here match the ones in Magic. If they're not there at all, put them in.
  4. Use the "checkpw" command on support.erolls.com to make sure that they're even in the password file. If they're not there, find out why.
  5. Check their userid and password the the authentication servers. make sure you check "tron" and "clu", since these are the main authentication servers.

If all of the above checks out, you're probably looking at a corrupt preferences file. >
