Disabling Extensions in System 7.6
After you bring up the Extensions Manager, you will see a screen similar to this:
- Click where it says "My Settings" (It may say something else if the customer has customized their extensions previously).
- Choose "7.6 Base"
- Click on the "Duplicate Set..." in the lower right-hand corner. This will bring up a dialog box like this:
- Name the set "Erol's" and click "OK"
- The 7.6 Extensions Manager divides itself into 5 sections (called "Folders", listed alphabetically by section (Control Panels comes first, then Extensions). To the left of each of the folders, there is a small triangle. If the folder is "open", the triangle looks like this:
. Close the "Control Panels" folder (the triangle next to the "Control Panels" should look like this:
). The Extensions Manager should now look something like this:
- Scroll down the Extensions until you see "FreePPP", and put an "x" in the box to the left of it. This turns this extension on.
Now for the final bit. If an Apple modem (Express Modem, GeoPort, or Global Village modem) is being used, its drivers need to be reactivated. Use the following table to determine what gets activated:
Modem Name
|
To be reactivated
|
Apple Express Modem
(Ships standard with Performa 6400)
|
Telephone Manager
Express Modem (Control Panel)
|
GeoPort
|
Telephone Manager
|
Global Village Modem
|
GlobalFax
Global Village Toolbox
GlobalFax GX
and one of the below:
Teleport (Control Panel)
or Powerport (Control Panel)
or Teleport Serial Tool (Control Panel)
|
Global Village One World Modem |
GlobalFax
Global Village Toolbox
Network Modem
One World Fax (Control Panel)
|
Additionally, you may have to reactivate the extension for the printer, and a few others such as:
- Printer Extensions (especially non-Apple printer extensions)
- Iomega Extension
- SAM Intercept (or other virus scanner)
Now, close the Extensions Manager. If it gives any messages about "Duplicates existing in the target folder", it alright to overwrite them. It's also possible that an Error of Type -15277 may appear. Get that squared away (click on that link to find out how) and Restart the computer!!
