V kraji pod historickou Duklou strávil svoju viac-menej pracovnú dovolenku šéfredaktor rusínskeho časopisu THE NEW RUSYN TIMES (v preklade Nový rusínsky čas - pozn. red.) Američan Richard Custer. Šéfredaktor tohto amerického rusínskeho časopisu prišiel na Slovensko už po šiesty krát, a to nielen preto, že jeho starí rodičia pochádzali z Príkrej a z Krajnej Poľany, ale najmä preto, že pod Duklou zbieral materiály nielen do rusínskych novín, ale aj na novú webovú stránku s názvom Rusínske sela pod Duklou.

„Prvýkrát som bol na Slovensku v roku 1996, vždy sa tu však rád vraciam, lebo moji starí rodičia odtiaľ pochádzali a dnes tu mám veľa priateľov. U jedného z nich aj bývam - Jožka Keselicu.  Svoju 12-dňovú dovolenku som začal v Prešove, potom som si prezrel Slávnosti kultúry Rusínov-Ukrajincov, a keďže sa veľmi zaujímam o rusínsku kultúru, zbieral som materiály pre svoju novú webovú stránku,“ povedal pre Podduklianske novinky šéfredaktor rusínskeho časopisu THE NEW RUSYN TIMES Richard Custer. Spomínaný časopis, ktorý vydáva istá rusínska organizácia v USA, má v súčasnosti okolo 1 600 predplatiteľov a Richard Custer je šéfredaktorom celých desať rokov jeho vydávania. „Píšeme o rusínskych správach v Amerike, o tom čo robí naša spoločnosť, ale aj o rusínskych cerkvách. Píšeme o všetkom, o čom vieme, že našich čitateľov bude zaujímať. Píšeme o kultúre, histórii, jednoducho o všetkom, čo sa týka Rusínov, ale nie o politike,“ doplnil R. Custer, ktorý navštívil niekoľko našich obcí a urobil si množstvo fotografií drevených i nových cerkví, pomníkov a rozhovorov s ľuďmi. R. Custer aj napriek tomu, že žije v krajine za veľkou mlákou, na svoj jazyk nezabúda a celkom slušne a hrdo hovorí rusínsky. „Som hrdý Rusín podduklianskeho rodu. Chcel by som, aby ľudia v tomto regióne hrdo držali rusínsku dušu i rusínsky jazyk, pretože naša rusínska kultúra obohacuje celý svet a bez toho náš svet a celé Slovensko by bolo chudobnejšie,“ uzavrel R. Custer.

In the land under the historic Dukla the editor-in-chief of the Rusyn publication The New Rusyn Times spent a more-or-less working vacation.  The editor of this American Rusyn publication came to Slovakia for the sixth time, and not just because his grandparents originated in Prykra and Krajnja Poljana, but primarily to gather under-the-Dukla-region materials not just for the Rusyn news, but for a new website called ‘Rusyn Villages under Dukla.’

“I came to Slovakia for the first time in 1996, and I’m always glad to come back, because my grandparents come from here and I have many friends here.  I’m staying with one of them, Joseph Keselica.  During my 12-day vacation I started in Prešov, then I attended the Festival of Culture of the Rusyn-Ukrainians [in Svidnyk], and since I have great interest in Rusyn culture, I’ve collected materials for my new website,” the editor of the Rusyn publication The New Rusyn Times, Richard Custer, told Podduklianske novinky.  This publication, which a Rusyn organization in the USA publishes, has at present about 1,600 subscribers and Richard Custer has been editor-in-chief for the entire 10 years of its publication.  “We write about Rusyn activities in America, what our organization is doing, and about the Rusyn churches.  We write about everything that we know would interest our readers.  We write about culture, history, in summary - everything that involves Rusyns - except politics,” continued R. Custer, who visited some of our villages and took many photos of wooden and new churches and tombstones, and did interviews with the people. R. Custer also, for example, even though he lives in a country across the big ocean, has not forgotten his language and is completely proficient in and proudly converses in Rusyn.  “I’m a proud Rusyn of under-the-Dukla origin.  My wish is that the people in this region proudly preserve the Rusyn spirit and the Rusyn language, because our Rusyn culture enriches the whole world, and without it our world and all of Slovakia would be poorer,” R. Custer concluded.
