About Us

In 1986, my husband, Roger, and I moved to Capitol Hill, falling in love with the beautiful architecture and its vibrant city life. We purchased a property on 12 Street (now available to you) and our passion for home improvement only intensified when we remodeled it. Since then we have bought and remodeled several properties, all on Capitol Hill. Roger, an innovative engineer, put a lot of his experience to use in updating these homes. I love to work with color and decorating (my other job is to "motivate" Roger.) Some houses we needed to demolish inside completely and create entirely new living spaces with exposed brick wall, cathedral ceiling with loft and add new outdoor living spaces.

While I was a researcher in the Library of Congress, I met many interns who needed housing while they were in DC. This is how the idea for Short Term Housing DC came up. Since 1996, I have been hosting graduate students and student interns during academic semesters: summer (3 months), fall (4 months), and spring (5 months). They come from all over the world, from Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, France, England, Germany, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Japan, Korea, and India, in addition to the United States.

The students who stay with us mostly are majoring in law, political science, government or international studies, journalism, art history, engineering, medicine and architecture. Interns usually are working with the Supreme Court, various congressional offices, the White House, non-profit organizations, law firms, NIH and other research institutions.

The one thing I enjoy most of this service is having a chance to get to know intelligent and highly motivated young people from all over the world. If you are interested in leasing space please send a message. According to your need and timing, I will try to find a suitable room for you.
