Palms
There aren't a whole lot of words or phrases in English that are based on
palm trees -- not even as many as are based on badgers;
however, the image of a palm tree is quite common. For example, if you came
across a website with nothing but pictures of a briefcase, a penguin, a shovel,
a palm tree and the planet Saturn, which would you click to plan your vacation?
The cartoon cliche of a desert island almost always includes a palm tree, not a
rocky cliff, a cactus or a seal. Palm trees appear on the flags, seals or arms
of many tropical nations and sub-tropical states.
