PRESS RELEASE: Creative Visions Exhibition July 20 through
August 13, 2000
A MULTIMEDIA COLLABORATION AT GALLERY
WEST:
Artists and Television combine to reach out to the community
Gallery West, the cooperative art gallery at 205 South Union Street, Alexandria, VA, announced today a collaboration with Barbara Januszkiewicz of Creative Vision Television to profile area artists. This multimedia project is an effort to support public awareness for visual artists. The two organizations hope to stimulate and encourage art awareness, foster community involvement and educate on the creative process.
Established in 1979, Gallery West is the oldest artist-operated gallery in Northern Virginia. It represents established and emerging artists working in a broad spectrum of paint media, as well as photography, sculpture, woodturning and ceramics.
Barbara Januszkiewicz, founder and producer of Creative Vision
Television, is a multi-media artist, filmmaker and teacher who
devotes much of her time to making art accessible to the public
via her cable TV programs.
"Art matters. Seek your creative vision. Be drawn to the
visual arts for it can expand your imagination. Creative thinking
inspires ideas. Ideas inspire change," says Januszkiewicz.
Creative Vision Television will provide a showcase of their documentaries on area artists. In addition, Lloyd Wolf, Hilda Thorpe, Steve Fleming, Catriona Fraser and Barbara Januszkiewicz have been invited to display their work as a part of this exhibition.
This exhibition will include the installation of the "Vision
Project" mosaics created by the artist members of Gallery
West. Januszkiewicz will produce a documentary on this project
for broadcast by Creative Vision Television on their Cable TV
Public Access program about art and artists. Photographer/painter
Sharon Mason, Gallery West's president, explains the Vision Project's
purpose: "Everyone knows that each artist renders the visible
world differently. But when a number of artists collaborate on
the same project, the differences are dramatized, and anyone can
see what each
artist brings to the bare 'facts' before their eyes."
The Creative Visions Exhibition will be on display from July 20 through August 13, 2000. A press preview will be held at Gallery West on Wednesday, July 19 from 6:30 -8:30 PM. Participating artists will be on hand to answer questions from the press.
