Rondout Lighthouse . Hudson River . New York . Gouache . 12" x 16"

... the Rondout Lighthouse sits on a man-made peninsula, jutting out into the Hudson River at Kingston, New York. At one time there were 14 lighthouses, of various shapes & sizes, situated along the Hudson, stretching from the Erie Canal, south to Manhatten. Six of them no longer exist & one has been relocated. Presently, the Rondout Lighthouse is under the authority of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Also, an interesting side fact... the Statue of Liberty, in New York Harbor, is considered a lighthouse...

This original Gouache painting was sold at auction on November 14, 2004, at the Spinnersville Hotel, Spinnerstown, Pa... benefit the Children's Developmental Program of Quakertown.
