What You Always Wanted to Know About
Little League Baseball
and Were Afraid to Ask . . .

By virtue of legislation approved unanimously by both houses of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 16, 1964, Little League Baseball has been granted a Congressional Charter of Federal Incorporation.  No other sports organization has been so honored by the Federal Government.

Basically, Little League has two structural components, each dependent upon the other and each vital to the success of the program.   The administration and service core of the movement is Little League Baseball, Incorporated, a non-profit membership organization which maintains the international program, with offices and Headquarters in Williamsport, PA.

The other component is the local leagues, the only unit of organization.  The Local League effects its services in the community.   It affords physical facilities, volunteer manpower and resources to provide a program for children.

Fairfax Little League operates under three charters (American, Dominion, and National) granted annually by Little League Baseball, Inc.  The League is autonomous in the sense of freedom to elect its own officers, finance its program and carry on various other related functions, but it must adhere scrupulously to all rules and regulations established by Little League Baseball, Inc., and the International Congress of League representatives.

The organizational structure of Little League Baseball that impacts Fairfax Little League is as follows:

Headquarters, Williamsport, PA

Southern Region, St. Petersburg, FL

State of Virginia

Virginia District 10 (1 of 15 in State)

Fairfax American, Dominion & National Little
Leagues (3 of 15 in District 10)

As mentioned earlier, Fairfax Little League has three chartered Leagues.  All three Leagues are administrated by one Board of Directors, which makes all decisions pertaining to the operation of the leagues.  The Board encourages attendance and input at its monthly meetings, which are held the second Wednesday of each month at Thaiss Park in Fairfax, by all adults affiliated with Fairfax Little League.

Members of the Board of Directors are elected at the General Membership meeting, held annually in September.  Membership of this year's Board of Directors is listed on the Board of Directors page.   You are encouraged to contact any one of the directors if you have questions or comments.  If you would like to get involved in the administration of Fairfax Little League, please contact a member of the Board of Directors.

By-Laws

The league is governed by its By-Laws which are revised annually and adopted at the Annual Meeting each September. All adults associated with the league are encouraged to attend the annual meeting as well as all other Board of Directors meetings. Officers are elected at this annual meeting also. Copies of the By-Laws are available through your league officials. The By-Laws will be made available on this site shortly.

Meetings

The Board of Directors meets the second Wednesday of each month in the meeting room at Thaiss Park. During April, May and June, the meetings are held at 8:30 PM. All other meetings begin at 7:30 PM. Meetings are subject to change, so please check the League calendar. Board meetings are open to all adults affiliated with Fairfax Little League.
