The Zebra


My "OTHER" other car (Heh!): This 1966 Dodge Dart was an
impulse buy, one of those deals that comes along and you either
have to jump on it or pass, I jumped. Already road race prepared
by Joshua Skinner (Josh found himself with too many projects
and not enough time and money, now he as more money and I
have less), it needed only minor tuning to take out and have
fun with:

SUSPENSION:
  • 16:1 steering box.
  • 1.04" Torsion Bars.

  • Steel Crank, Stock Rods, KB Flat Top
    Pistons set to 0 Deck Hight.
  • Edlebrock LD4 Intake/750 CFM 4160 Holley.
  • Stock "302"/"swirl port" late 318 Heads.
  • Stock '66 273 Manifolds/3" single exhaust.
  • About 10.5:1 Compression.
  • Ran 14.6 in the Quarter, which (assuming
    a 3500 LB all up weight) should be around
    220-230 rear wheel HP, but I'm guessing its
    closer to 275 HP as it was SERIOUSLY hampered
    by wheel hop before I installed some slapper
    bars.

WHEELS/TIRES:
  • Came with some 15"x7" '70s MOPAR Wheels
    mounted with some older Kuhmo tires.
  • Since its converted to 5 on 4.5" Bolt
    pattern, the Dart inhairets the Mustang's
    15"x7" and 16"x8" wheels.
  • Installing a set of chrome 16"x8" - 5"
    back space Crager Soft Eights with 245 45
    16 Toyo RA-1 tires (Left over from the
    Mustang's migration to 17"x9" wheels and
    275 40 17 Toyo RA-1s).

    Had to make some "adjustments to fit the
    245 45 16 tires: Trimmed the front lower corner of the front fenders
    Trimmed the front lower corner of the front fenders.
    And trim and roll front fender lip
    And trim and roll front fender lip.
DRIVE TRAIN:
  • Transmission: MOPAR 2.66:1 First gear A833 4 Speed.
  • Rear Axle: MOPAR 8.75, 3.55:1 Suregrip.
