Last Wednesday Night at the Planning Commission Hearing, the transportation plan was approved with changes, and sent forward to the Board of County Supervisors. One of the two changes made was MOMENTOUS.
Robert Clark (Wilbourn appointee) requested that Artemus Road from 234 to Route 15 be reinstated on the plan. The Commission members offered no objection and it was so ordered.
This road is a disaster for Western Prince William County. If ever there was a developer road this is it. As shown on the Map it bisects Gainesville from Gum Springs across to Route 15 north of Haymarket. An upgrade of Gum Springs is already in the plan. This version of Artemus road would be a four lane arterial highway.
Mr. Wilbourn has been trying to get sewers into this area. He has proposed that sewers go all the way to the Bull Run Mountains, but going only to Artemus would be his "compromise."
The rural enclave idea in the Planning Commission would be gutted in so far as Gainesville District is concerned.
An authoritative source states that Mr. Wilbourn has a contract with Pulte Builders for homes on Gum Springs Road.
We are planning to attend the Public Hearing TONIGHT (7:30 P) at the McCoart Building to protest the action of the Planning Commission. This is the first step in a campaign to make people aware that the whole plan is in danger of being eviscerated by political actions such as this.
Please join us to protest this road and the implications that its inclusion has on the Comp. Plan as a whole.
