Empty
Bowls Fund Raiser

Think of this as an opportunity to
expand your their holiday shopping ideas!  Half of the donation from the bowl
sale will go to our sister parish in
Mississippi
for their members food bank who are still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
Our plan is to present this before the holidays.  The rest of the empty bowl
money would help support our food pantry and thanksgiving food drive.

If you have never
heard of Empty Bowls, here is some background information:
  Believe that we
here on earth can learn to feed one another as well as ourselves.  Our
goals are to raise money to help organizations fight hunger, to raise
awareness about the issues of hunger and food security, and to help bring
about an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist.

An Empty Bowls event is based on the basic premise that guests are served soup
in a handmade ceramic bowl in exchange for a cash donation to fight hunger.
They are asked to keep their bowl as a reminder of the meal’s purpose.
Every time they take the bowl from their cupboard, they will be reminded that
someone’s bowl is always empty and that on this one occasion they helped to
alleviate hunger and could choose to do so again at anytime.  All money
collected will be donated to an organization fighting hunger chosen by the
people involved in that particular event.

Sound simple?
It is!  Think about it... Ceramic arts students creating bowls,
home-economics students making soup and bread, potters teaching students to make
and glaze bowls, Empty Bowls booths at your local art fair, school service
learning projects happening at every level, special gardens producing food for
your event. The possibilities are endless!

Empty Bowls' humble beginnings as a meal for the staff of one high school has
spread across the United States and beyond and has raised millions of dollars
for anti-hunger organizations.

 The season is over
again for another year.  We had a fun time and even won a game (for real!)  We would love to win
more than a game or
two but constantly say we are there for the fun and pure enjoyment of being
outdoors with other Christians.

We play on B League (somewhat competitive, yet for us mostly fellowship). Our
schedule will be listed
here next season.  All games are played at Chancellors Run Park.

To get your name on the list to play or to cheer the team on, please contact
Marsha Merchant via the
church office at 301-863-8551.

There will be board games for ages 3 and up.  Bring your

   Refreshment Hour
Refreshment hour follows the 10:30 a.m. service and is an opportunity
to meet newcomers and visitors. Coffee, juice, cookies or crackers are
prepared and set out for those wishing to socialize after church.
Men and women are encouraged to sign up to be hosts and hostesses.
Ann Clements is the coordinator and you can call her via the church office
at 301-863-8551 if you would like to join the growing list of volunteers.
Check out the
