World Bank Shorinji Kempo
Branch Membership

Here are biographical notes about some of the members of the branch.

Kenichi "Ken" Ohashi, 5th dan, Branch Master Emeritus

    Ken Ohashi founded the World Bank branch, and remains its senior instructor. He practiced Shorinji Kempo at the renowned Tokyo University, and later founded the branch at Cornell University. After moving to Washington, he founded the World Bank branch in 1979.


Allen Liff, 4th dan, Branch Master

    Allen began Shorinji Kempo with Ken Ohashi at Cornell. He has practiced the art since 1978, and has made many trips to Japan for further study. As the primary Shorinji Kempo instructor for the World Bank branch, Allen leads most of the work-out sessions with a distinctive energetic and light-hearted style. The picture at left shows Allen beginning an attack in an embu presentation at the 1992 Cornell Camp seminar.

Neal Ziring Neal Ziring, 3rd dan

    Neal began practicing Kempo at the Bell Labs branch in New Jersey, back in 1989.  He has attended many seminars and Taikai events, and sometimes lead practice.  Neal maintains his own personal Kempo pages.

David Yuravlivker, 2nd dan

    David has been a member of the World Bank branch since 1985 (?). During that time he has attended several seminars, and been a steady supporter of the branch.


New picture of AzedineAzedine Ouerghi, 1st dan, Branch administrator

    Azedine began his study of Shorinji Kempo with Aosaka-sensei in Paris in 1981. After several years' neglect, he re-started practice with the World Bank branch in 1994. He is a strong supporter of the World Bank branch, and occasionally leads practice sessions. As the membership director, Azedine is also happy to answer phone calls and email messages with questions about Shorinji Kempo. His phone number is 3-7531.


The Bos Ana Bos, 1st kyu

    Ana began practicing with the World Bank branch in 1993, and worked steadily to reach 1Kyu. After a few years hiatus, she has again taken up the dogi and began practicing.

Mariángeles Sabella, 3rd Kyu

    Mariángles began studying Kempo in 2000, not long after joining the fearsome World Bank legal staff.  She attended her first (unofficial) seminar this year, and is eager to improve her Shorinji technique.


Whadya say about Texas? Jeff Carrera, 3rd Kyu

    Jeff began practicing with the World Bank Shorinji Kempo club in 2000, and has worked steadily to improve his technique.  Despite the crushing pressures of his job, he comes to class periodically and continues to make progress.


Zena, minari

    The mysterious Zena began practicing in 2002, and (prior to a long vacation) made rapid progress.  Will she return?  Watch this page and see...
