After a full and rewarding thirty-eight year submarine career in the US Navy, Vice Admiral "Yogi" Kaufman launched a second career as a photographer and writer. His work appears in numerous magazines and books worldwide. Best known for his writing and photos on submarines and aircraft carriers, Yogi's real joy is photographing wildlife and natural history , colorful samples of which are here for your enjoyment.
Counting the above-noted 10th anniversary edition of their Alaska book, in recent years he and his son Steve have completed five coffee-table books featuring their photography, these being UNTAMED ALASKA, (publ. Thomasson-Grant), SILENT CHASE - SUBMARINES OF THE U.S. NAVY(publ. Thomasson-Grant), SHARKS OF STEEL (publ. Naval Institute Press) - a companion book to the Discovery Channel TV Emmy-winning submarine documentary by the same title, and CITY AT SEA (Publ. Naval Institute Press) a pictorial salute to the 5,500 sailors in our aircraft carriers who really make the ships and aircraft operate.
