Annual Projects Tour

Text Box: Western Maryland RC&D Board Members, at-large members, employees, representatives of U.S. Senators Sarbanes and Mikulski and interested parties met on June 8, 2005 at the Park & Ride in Frostburg, Maryland for a tour of active and completed project sites. After first touring the Kempton mine site, we traveled on to Garrett College for a lunch and presentation by Dr. Peter Skylstad on the subject of monitoring activities at the Kempton complex. He was assisted by a staff of graduate and undergraduate students. The remainder of the tour included stops at the Glotfelty, Teets and Midlothian project sites in order to view the progress made in addressing Acid Mine Drainage issues. All in all, the tour was of great benefit to all participants from the five-county area in viewing the positive effect on our environment through the RC&D Council’s efforts.
