Wheeler Award Nominations
May 1, 2007
The Wheeler Award is an annual $100 award given to a skater as a result of a monetary donation by Miss Mary Starr Wheeler to the Washington Figure Skating Club. Miss Wheeler was a charter member of the WFSC and a High Test Judge through the years of the Club’s tenancy at the Chevy Chase Ice Palace, The Washington Coliseum (1951-1973), and Tysons Ice Rink (1973-1978).
Criteria for selection
Any junior member of the WFSC (those 18 years old or younger) may be nominated.
Among other considerations, the Committee will weigh:
a) Motivation as evidenced by the skater’s independent utilization of ice time.
b) Sportsmanship, demonstrated through courtesy to fellow skaters on and off the ice. Attitude toward skaters, professionals, monitors, judges, and others.
c) Ability evidenced by progress in passing tests, competition placements, and other objective data.
Factors that do not limit selection: level of achievement (beginner or high test), and category of skating (figures, freeskating, pairs, or dance).
Nominations must be received by Sunday, May 20, 2007.
Nominations are invited from all Club members, session monitors, and professionals who teach WFSC skaters. To nominate a skater for this award, please send a letter or email outlining the reasons for your choice to:
