* TOM stands for Total of the Majority and is used when there is a tie. For example, if there are 5 judges and Skater A gets placements: 1, 2, 3, 1, 5 and Skater C receives: 2, 1, 4, 2, 3 - neither skater has a majority of 1st places. The next step is to see who has the most 2nd places, but each has three 2nd (or better) places. After that, the system uses Total of the Majority: A's total of majority ordinals is 4, C's is 5, so A wins on TOM. If there is still a tie, say C had places: 2,1,1, 4, 3 then we would add up the TO (total ordinals), in which case A has 12 and C has 11. C would win on TO (the lower number is better). The ordinal system of judging may be replaced by Code of Points someday soon.
