II. Volksmarches (Walking by feet)

1. The events have to be indicated as "International Volksmarches".

2.

a) Volksmarches must offer at least one short and one medium distance. National Volkssport Federations and the IVV may approve exceptions in justified cases. Additional a "shorter" distance (5 - 9 km) and a longer distance may be offered. A checkpoint must be located half way through the distance. The "shorter" distance must be laid out as a circular route.

Walking Distances:

Short distance: minimum 10 km - maximum 15 km

Medium distance: minimum 20 km - maximum 30 km

In case of distances more than 30 km, approval of the National Volkssport Federation is necessary.

b) For winter walks only, one short distance is sufficient. Additionally, a "shorter" distance (5 - 9 km) may be offered. A checkpoint must be located half way through the distance. The "shorter" distance must be laid out in a circular route.

c) Countries with extremely different climates may use the distances for winter walks.

Walking Distances for Winter Walks:

Short distance: minimum 10 km - maximum 12 km

Medium distance: minimum 15 km - maximum 20 km

More-Days-Walks: Minimum 10 km per day.

For distances more than 30 km per day, decision of the National Volkssport Federation required.

3. The distances indicated in the advertising brochure must be exact, according to the facts. Shortening of advertised distances is only allowed in cases of extreme climate or route conditions and only with permission of the corresponding National Volkssport Federation.

4. The trail has to be rated according to the terrain conditions. Extreme climbs must be avoided. The routes should lead off public streets. Main streets must be avoided.

5. Special mountain walks have to be declared as such in the brochure. Altitude differences must be stated.

6. More-Days-Walks are events in the course of which on two or more following days different distances of about equal length must be accomplished. After the last day's distance, only one award for the whole event will be given. Events taking place on only two days (e.g., Saturday and Sunday) offering the chance to walk the distance either on one or the other day, are not More-Days-Walks.

7. For the accomplished distance only one Volkssport award can be given.

8. The Volkssport award may only be given to participants who obtained control stamps from every checkpoint. Disabled and handicapped persons may also obtain the award when they obtain at least one checkpoint stamp. This does not apply for the marathon distance.
