General Convention Chairman ~ 2000Suzanne joined the Belle Boyd Chapter 516, Children of the Confederacy, as a charter member on November 11, 1957, on the record of her great grandfather, John Alexander Silman, who served in Co. F, 43rd Battalion, Virginia Cavalry (Mosby's Rangers). (Her children David and Caroline were also members of Belle Boyd; her grandson Kannon is a charter member of the newly reactivated chapter.) Before aging out, Suzanne served as President of the chapter and as Division Treasurer. On December 30, 1961, she transferred to Warren Rifles Chapter 934 and has served as chapter 3rd Vice President, Historian, President, and Treasurer and as President of the Board of Trustees of the Warren Rifles Confederate Memorial Museum.
Suzanne's service on the Division level has included terms as Vice President (1977-1979); President (1979-1981); member of the Division Board of Trustees; member of the Division Policy Committee; member and chairman of the Finance Committee; and member and chairman of the Lee Chapel and Mausoleum Committee.
In addition to her service as Treasurer General and General Chairman of the Finance Committee, Suzanne has also been a member of the General Finance Committee (1984-1988) and the General New Business Committee (1999 -2000). She also has served as financial advisor to the Children of the Confederacy General organization for a number of years.
