Nancy joined Turner Ashby Chapter 162, United Daughters of the Confederacy, on February 28, 1973, on the record of her great grandfather, William Jacob Carpenter (Co. H, 12th Virginia Cavalry). She has also filed supplementals for her great grandfather, Robert Hugh Lynn (Co. E, 18th Virginia Cavalry) and her great-great grandfather, Samuel Carpenter (Co. D, 58th Virginia Infantry). She has served as President (1988-1990, 1995-1997), Vice President (1991-1995), and Recorder of Crosses of Military Service (1987-1989).

She has also served as General Chairman of the Jefferson Davis Highway Committee (1999-2000).
