Remote operation is independent of the microscope attached
to the computer. It is based on using off-the-shelf technology for remote
computer operation to set up a host-remote configuration using existing
networking hardware and interconnection schemes. There are 3 basic
options: Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) and Host/Remote
(H/R). The WAN and H/R options also comes in 2 versions: Dial-up and
Dedicated Line. Seamless remote operation requires sending and receiving
uncompressed data at rates greater than 100Mbps.
