Sponsored by Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, Health Resources and Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services

Course Description

This two-day course, taught by leaders in the telehealth and telemedicine field, is designed for participants who want a more in-depth exposure to advanced telemedicine and distance learning applications and a better understanding of the United States Federal government's telemedicine activities.

The purpose of the course is to highlight the use of teleconferencing networks, Internet applications, multimedia education tools and other advanced applications for the provision of health care services and education at a distance. Based on our extensive experience with OAT telemedicine and distance learning grantees, we have developed "best practice" models for both clinical and technological procedures using telemedicine. Course participants will be introduced to telemedicine business plan principles and be provided with "best practice" model templates.

Course lecturers will include OAT's interdisciplinary team of network engineers, clinicians, policy analysts, multimedia production staff and telemedicine grant program directors. Other guest lecturers will include members of the Joint Working Group on Telemedicine- a U.S. Federal government interagency group- who will provide an overview of the U.S. government's telemedicine and telehealth activities.
