Satellite Communications Technology and Management

Course Description

This course combines a detailed look at satellite communications management with earth station design and operation. The first part of the course provides an in-depth review of the INTELSAT satellite system. Issues covered will include techniques for operating a global satellite system, ground and space segment operations, operational management, planning, sales and marketing, and new satcom technologies and services. The second part of the course will look at more in-depth technical aspects of satellite communications, including satellite performance and a detailed analysis of earth station design and operation. Hands-on exercises will demonstrate up-to-date capabilities for satellite communications. The course is designed to be useful both to managers and technical-level participants.

Participant Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to address the fundamental concepts of satellite communications, understand the management, business and technical operations of the INTELSAT system, and gain a knowledge of system engineering. Participants will also gain knowledge of general cost benefit considerations in satellite operations and equipment, be able to perform link analysis and determine system availability. The course is appropriate for managers and technical-level personnel.
