Course Description
The intelligent management of information resources is essential to increased workforce productivity in the years ahead. This course is designed to help managers understand how to effectively identify, utilize, and manage information and knowledge-based resources and assets. Particular attention will be given to the areas of business information literacy and knowledge management in the context of the rapid and challenging pace of technological change.
In order to develop and sustain the competitive advantage in knowledge-based economies, the systemic and explicit management of vital knowledge is key, and requires the constant refinement of learning processes that reflect a dynamic information society. Knowledge management is the systematic task of identifying, developing and optimizing an organization’s tangible and intangible knowledge resources. It involves the development, maintenance, and use of these assets and tools form problem solving, engaged learning, strategic planning and decision making.
Information literacy -- the ability to find, evaluate, analyze, synthesize, and effectively use an expanding range of information resources -- is critical to all levels of a corporate structure in order to compete successfully in a digital economy. Once thought of as the sole province of the library and information science professional, information literacy is essential to maximizing the knowledge capital of any workforce, and provides an unique avenue to creative and critical problem solving.

Participants will be able to: (1) understand the importance of information and knowledge-based resources in corporate settings (2) identify, develop, and utilize corporate information and knowledge resources to enhance intellectual capital and maximize workplace learning, problem solving, and decision making (3) evaluate and respond to challenges presented by the rapid developments and expanding impact of technology.
