featuring the HORSE COURSE |
5 days of riding lessons and fun with horses for boys & girls ages 8 & up. Plus swimming, games & crafts.
*Extended hours by pre-arrangement
* Our riding instructor,
Meredith Schwenke Jones, developed the Horse Course in 1995, and had
taught it at Criswood Farm in Woodbridge, Va., before moving to
Culpeper. She also has had teaching and camp experience from her years
as counselor at Bayberry Riding Center in Spotsylvania, Va., and riding
program supervisor and instructor at Mulford Day School in Centerville.
As a freshman at the College of William and Mary, she was selected for
the Intercollegiate Riding team, and was named captain in her
Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. During these years, she was also
employed as a teaching assistant in the college riding program.
Currently, Meredith takes her students to Hunter Shows, Dressage Shows,
and Combined Training Events. She also coaches our A.I.R.C. Riding
Team. She enjoys showing her own horse in Dressage andCombined Training
Events. She is a
member of USCTA, CDCTA and VADA-F.
* Riding lessons will be in small groups, according to ability, an hour each day. Beginners can expect to learn to control the horse at the walk, and begin to trot, post, and ride in 2-point position. More advanced riders will work on equitation and jumping. On Friday afternoon students will participate in a horse show for friends and family.
* Barn activity is a time for the
children to learn about horsemanship. Throughout the weeks we will
learn about horse safety, the parts of the horse, colors, brainding the
mane and tail, cleaning and caring for tack, and about the upper levels
of riding.
While the morning hours at our regular
Summer Day Camp will be devoted to horses, the afternoons will be fun-
filled with swimming, games,
and free-swim in the pool, crafts, board games, and sports.
Our staff, in addition to Peter and Jan Schwenke, farm owners, and Meredith Schwenke Jones, farm manager and principle riding instructor, will also include two counselors, a barn manager, and a certified life guard for 15 campers.
We ask that campers bring a large, healthy, brown
bag lunch. The camp will provide morning and afternoon snacks. Be sure
to list any food allergies on the application form.
In addition to the items needed for the HORSE COURSE, campers will also need a change of clothes (jeans, shorts, shirt, sneakers) a bathing suit, and a large beach towel. Don't forget sunscreen! Please come dressed to ride.
Campers may bring their own horse to camp on a space available basis. Register early! There is no charge for Field Board/Self Care. Full Stall Board is $125. for the camp week. Horses may be brought to camp on Sunday evening and stay thru close of camp on Friday. Individual arrangements may be made for weekends, multiple weeks, etc.
TOUCH POINT FARM hosts Fun Schooling

evening during the summer, and some campers may participate in one of
the shows in the classes at their ability level.
