DOWN 16-2, FREE TRADERS WIN 17-16!
The Free Traders made the biggest single game
comeback in its history on October 3. After
falling behind to the Whitlow's On Wilson team
by a score of 16-2 after three and a half innings,
the Free Traders rallied to score eight runs in
the bottom of the fourth and seven runs in the
bottom of the fifth to secure an amazing 17-16
win!
The umpire declared that the bottom of the fifth
inning would be the last at bats of the game, and
the Free Traders still trailed by a score of 16-10.
Greg Haydasz and Al Schneider started the rally
with singles. Scott St. Clair drew a walk to load
the bases. Scott Chapman singled home Haydasz,
and Dave Buttner singled home Schneider, leaving
the bases loaded for big Alan Boyd.
Alan did not disappoint. Alan launched a huge
grand slam home run that tied the game, 16-16!
John Sholhead followed with a shot that hit the
fence for a double. Mark Ulrich advanced Sholhead
to third base with a fly ball to left center field.
Then Alan Peterson completed the incredible comeback
with a single that scored Sholhead with the winning
run!
How sweet it is!
Dave Buttner also tied a Free Trader single game record
by popping four base hits! Well done, Dave! Dave joins
Alan Boyd as the only players on this team who have had
four base hits in three different games. Visit the team
batting record web site HERE.
Sadly, we were unable to carry on the success of
the first game into the second game, but the memory
of the comeback will go down into team lore forever.
