Freedom's Lark

 She's free, she said.
She's free as a lark, she cried.
 Be careful, I said.
Be careful and know that I love you.

 She can fly, she said.
She's in love and alive, she cried.
But even the birds must learn to fly, I said,
and how can one learn to fly
when one has never had wings?
