Exporters - Administrative Stuff: "I'm looking for another sponsor as it looks like Quinn's is stiffing me on the sponsorship from last season despite telling me several times they agreed to sponsor, the last time being in December. Since then, I can't get any responses to any of the weekly follow up contacts I've made. Because of all of that, I don't know what jersey's we will use this season." [Editor's note: Quinn's finally came through with the money that they had promised the team from last year (2018), but we have dropped them as a team sponsor due to their unprofessional behavior.]
1) Exporters vs Ballston Bombers played on 04/01/2019
The Exporters opened the season looking rusty from the winter against a
very good defensive team on a cold night. Nate was the only one to
homer that night. Brandon, Eugene and Blake all hit triples, but the
rest of were just a few scattered hits. Hopefully the bats will warm up
with the temperatures.
The Exporters opened the night strongly scoring 8 in the first inning
and never looked back coasting to a 17-7 victory. Game 2 was much
closer with the Exporters trailing much of the game before finally
taking the lead in the 4th. WCB fought back to retake the lead by 1 run
in the top of the 5th. With their last at bat, the Exporters started
with a pair of singles by Roger and Eric. Glen then hit into a double
play, but advanced Roger to third. Brandon singled Roger home to tie
the game. With two outs and one on, Eugene sent a ball flying over the
left-center fence to win the game. Kelly returned to the lineup with a
strong performance going 4 for 6 with a walk and 2 HRs.
The Exporters came up against a defensively talented Core Sports team.
The Exporters couldn't figure out the pitcher who had excellent command
and induced many easy outs in the first game. In game 2, the Exporters
did a little better, managing to score 12 runs, but still came up short.
The game started with an explosion of runs by the Bombers in the first
innings and then held scoreless for the next four innings. In a game of
small ball, the Exporters slowly narrowed the gap until they tied the
game in the top of the last inning. However, they could not hold on as
the Bombers were able to break their drought and get a run home in the
bottom of the inning to win the game. In the nightcap, the Exporters
couldn't get a rally going in any inning while the Bombers found their
groove to plate 16 runs. The Exporters need more consistent hitting if
they want to win in this league.
The Exporters got off to a slow start in their first game on the new
turf field at Gunston. Homers by Trent and Nate helped, but too little
too late to overcome the hole that was dug. Game 2 was much better with
hitting early and often that allowed the Exporters to snag the win. [Editor's Note: This was Eugene's first victory on the mound!]
Men - The Big Sticks just forfeited. No games tonight. We are scheduled to play them again on Monday. See you then.
IN: Eugene, Trent, Eric, Andrew, Roger, Nate, Brenden, Brandon, Zach,
Nick, Mark (game 2).
OUT: Blake, Kelly, Glen, Mark (game 1)
Split. Eugene won game 2 with another walk off homer. I'm out of town until Sunday and my PC crashed. Won't get scoresheet until it's fixed.
Inconsistent hitting led to not enough runs in the opener. The nightcap
was close with the Exporters battling back for a dramatic finish.
Andrew had a good night finding many different ways to get on base in
his leadoff position. Trent, upset that he was dropped down in the
batting order, took his anger out on the ball for a big night with 3
triples and a homer for a 5 RBI night. However, Eugene solidified his
reputation as "Mr. Clutch" in game 2. Facing a 10-5 deficit in the
fifth inning, he drew blood first with a 2-run homer to begin the rally
that would tie the game by the end of the inning. In the top on the
sixth the Exporters held the Big Sticks scoreless. In the bottom of the
last inning with two men out and one man on, Eugene returned to the
plate and hit a ball over the left-center fence for the walkoff win.
The opening game was one of small ball for most of the game. The
Exporters held a slim lead early before giving it up to the Dukes in the
fifth inning. In the bottom of the last inning, the Exporters trailed
10-5. Haris opened with a walk. Dave singled. Roger singled Haris in
for the first run. Andrew flew out and Brenden waled to load the bases
for Eugene. Once again Eugene hit the clutch grand slam to tie the
game. Unfortunately, the Exporters failed to score again with their
final two outs. In the nightcap, the Exporters started too slow and dug
too deep of a hole to dig out of. Eric may have set a record by
recording the final outs of innings with all 6 plate appearances that night.
In the second game of the tournament, the hitting drought continued with
the Exporters only able to get 8 runs on the board that included 2-run
homers by Nate and Blake.
