1) Exporters vs St Arnolds played on 08/28/2017
The Exporters were swept by St. Arnolds in the season openers. We
suffered from a serious lack of hitting. So little run production will
not win games in this league. We had some fielding miscues, but the
lack of offense hurt more.
The Exporters are swept again due to poor play. While the Big Sticks
hit the ball well, the Exporters poor defense ended up giving them extra
outs in most innings of both games. You can't win games giving the
other team 5 or 6 outs per inning. Poor hitting against a team with
only 9 players also hurt.
In game 1, they played with 3 outfielders and
left gaps that few Exporters exploited. In game 2, they went with 4
outfielders and 3 infielders, yet batters continued to try and pull the
ball and go deep rather than take the easy single at the area vacated
with no second baseman. Jason was a bright spot going 3 for 4 with 2
homers and a sac fly. Jose was 4 for 5 with a homer and 6 RBIs. Roger
took advantage of what was given to him going 4 for 4 with another
triple. Bottom line is we need to play better.
3) Exporters vs Dukes played on 09/18/2017
Again, weak offense and defensive mistakes led to the Exporters being
swept again. Game 1 had better hitting, just not enough. The few
bright spots of the evening were homers by Brian, Kelly and Jason. Huy
looks like he is getting his swing back going 4 for 6, but he must be
getting old. On a shot to the fence, the old Huy would have been easily
on third with thoughts of going home. Instead, he stopped at second.
Brian and Roger both went 5 for 7.
Once again the Exporters are swept with a lack of offense and mistakes
in the field. You can't win games in this league with such low run
production. This marked Tiko's return to the team after a long hiatus
in Florida. Demonstrating he still had is old form, Tiko added to his
total of balls fouled onto the WETA roof. On the bright side, the
Exporters managed to turn 2 infield double plays on the night.
The Exporters were in the opener with a chance to win with the help of
Jose's 2 home runs, but could not close out the game in the late
innings. In the second game, the Exporters bats went quiet. Jose added
another home run to go 5 for 5 on the evening, but got almost no help
from the rest of the offense.
6) Exporters vs Dukes played on 10/23/2017
Once again, the Exporters started well scoring 10 runs in the second
inning, but that would be all that would cross the plate. They held the
lead with strong defense going into the fourth inning which was
disastrous for them giving up 18 runs. In the second, Mike took the
mound to give it a try. Some great defense held the Dukes scoreless.
Jason came in and finished the rare game that went the full seven
innings due to such little offense by both teams. The Exporters
continue to not be able to put big numbers on the board for multiple
innings.
The Exporters played with 9 and swept a fully staffed St. Arnolds in a
night where the Exporters finally showed some good offense. Jose added
3 more homers to his total. Jared added 2 more homers on a cold night.
Solid hitting throughout the lineup lead to several good innings with
the bats. It was a good night to get into the win column.
