1) 8/25/09 v. Naturals
We got smoked both games. The Naturals are a tough team. They are a true B Division team. They hit all 3 homers by the third each game and had a steady stream of line drives. We didn’t hit the ball well and we kept getting caught in rundowns which hurt any momentum we had going.
[Jay Hatfield reporting] Despite the best efforts of our guys, we were undermanned and outgunned. Kyle Dabruzzi hit for the cycle in the first game (including an inside-the-park grand slam), but then injured himself in the top of the last inning and was unable to play the second game. He will be out for at least two weeks. We dropped the first game by one run, and got blown out in the second game. I am proud of the way the guys played. The guys stuck together despite the adversity ~ and that counts for something. Kyle's injury doomed us, but we adjusted as well as we could. Future HOFer Wes Scott bailed us out as our 10th man in game one. I was very impressed by Wes Yeary's powerful throwing arm, and by Jim Duffy's and Chris Chaisson's leadership. Coach Roger will be back next week. Many thanks to all the guys for putting up with me, and I will now fade away one more time...
Lost both: 22-0, 21-12. Umpire was on a new level of bad. Had no clue of basic rules. Called Bick out at home claiming he slid "out of the baseline". Gave a whole new definition to "in the area of the bag" on a DP where their SS never got within 2 feet of the base. And declared balls foul that hadn't been touched. Hadn't hit anything out of play and hadn't passed 1st or 3rd bases AND were still rolling. You know its bad when the other team apologises to you for the bad calls.
We split the games with BDNB. Glen pitched. Makeup game vs. Berico Technologies will be Saturday, October 3 at 3:00pm at Jennie Dean Field.
[Dennis Potter reporting (on Facebook)] When is the "coach the exporters" entry in the schedule? Coach Roger committed quite a sin last night.....though we still won game 1. Letting the home team with 8 players in the dugout switch to being visitors so they'd have a full squad by the time they took the field.
Fortunately though we did not have any runners called out of the baseline at home plate this week. I told Roger the Coach Emeritus would not approve. Think he needs a WWJD sticker for the dugout -- What Would Jay Do?
5) 9/29/09 v. KAHNCPA
[Dennis Potter reporting (on Facebook)] The team we played probably should have been in the tee-ball division. Swept the games in blowout fashion. Many offensive records were set. Roger with 3 triples, numerous inside the park homers, Mitchell with a shutout and a hitting streak from both sides of the plate, and Werner with 3 sac flies in 3 consecutive innings.
[Jay Hatfield reporting] Dan Mitchell pitched the 12th shutout in team history, and tied a team record with five hits in a game. The Exporters set a new team record by hitting 11 triples in game 2, eclipsing the previous record of 6 triples in an October 20, 1998 game against Harvey's Wallbangers. No records have been kept for consecutive sacrifice flies, but I'm willing to bet that Werner Ennesser's three consecutive sacrifice flies in game 1 will constitute a team record worthy of a long and melodic visit to a karaoke bar to entertain the team! FYI: The team record for most sacrifice flies in a season is 7.
[Jay Hatfield reporting] It was kinda straight forward: We were there. The other team wasn't. The umpire made it official, and we won both games by forfeit. Nuff said.
We split. Got off to a really slow start which hurt us in the first game and ended game 2 with 5 runs in the bottom of the last inning for a come from behind win.
8) 10/13/09 v. Berico Technologies
Lost both games by one run in last inning of each. Base running errors cost us runs in both games. We had a combined 3 guys picked off by not getting back to the base after rounding it during the night. That killed us. One was at third and two at second base. Glen [did not] slide at the plate to tie the [second] game. He missed the signal.
MVP - Jim Duffy was solid all year and played a variety of positions without any attitude.
GLOVE – Dennis Potter was by far and away the best we had defensively - consistently came up with big plays in the outfield.
ROOKIE – Chris Chaisson would be it. He played first, third and outfield defensively and his bat really came around.
Werner Ennesser was the most improved player this season. He has developed into a much more consistent hitter and drove in a lot of runs.
I think we should develop some kind of award for Dan Mitchell. Maybe "The Whiner’s Award" for *almost* winning the batting title two falls in a row except for his lack of attendance.
On Saturday October 3, Roger Morse assembled a motley crew of softball players to take on the mighty Berico Technologies team in a makeup game. I am ashamed to admit that I had advised Roger to fold up and walk away from this game on the Friday before the makeup, but Roger was determined to force Berico to face us on the field. It was his opinion that if Berico was going to beat us, they would have to do it on the field. Roger does not give away games!
As you guys know, Berico failed to show up, and we won both games of the doubleheader by forfeit!
To make matters worse, the suckers didn't even bother to call Roger to tell him that they wouldn't have a team at the field!
Our revenge was sweet! It turns out that the two games that we won by forfeit from them would cost Berico the league championship!
Congratulations, men! You were the Fall 2009 division spoilers!
Perhaps this means that the U.S. Exporters are actually the "2009 Spoilers of the Year!" Should we rename ourselves the "U.S. ExSpoilers?" Nice work, men!

U.S. Exporters Are The Fall 2009 Division Spoilers!
*
*Note: In the Spring 2009 season, the U.S. Exporters swept two one-run games from the Enjera Hawks, forcing them into a regular season tie with B Deep for the division championship! Both teams had finished the season with identical 15-3-0 records. The U.S. Exporters did not play B Deep in the Spring.
