2006 Men’s Fall Postseason Playoffs TournamentNovember 4, 2006
Team Comments:It was a long, cold day. Nonetheless, it felt great to get out and play this tournament. We won the morning games, but couldn't keep up with the "B" level teams in the afternoon. Believe it or not, I was rather enjoying the thought of playing the [expletive deleted team] at 4:00, but the Cruisers gave them a bit of a spanking in the 3:00 game and eliminated them from the tournament. Pity. And having seen quite a demonstration of poor sportmanship by the [expletive deleted team], I am proud that our team chose to display its dignity instead. Fare thee well, [expletive deleted team]. Many thanks to Todd Pace, Dan Mitchell, Scott Nelson, Jim Duffy, Ed Frank, Erik Lundquist, and Brian Darling for their noble efforts. I think we can only get better and better over time. I was especially impressed with the way the Free Traders pitcher Ed Reich handled the adversity of the afternoon games. Ed is a class act. Well done, Ed! He and Al Boyd were clearly our MVPs. And thanks to the Free Traders. Tom, you've got a good group of guys. The beer at the Bungalow (...umm, even the yard of Bungalow Light Lager...) tasted great! Tom Meldrum Reports:For those who weren't able to participate in the tournament on Saturday, I thought the joint team did very well. We won our first two games at 9:00 and 10:00 am, but then lost our last two against "B" level teams at 2:00 and 4:00, with the last game closer than the next-to-last. By that time, I don't think anyone was terribly upset about not continuing to play because the last game of the tournament was not scheduled to start until 9:00 pm. It was pretty nice sitting in warmth at the Bungalow while sipping the beverage of our choice. The Traders were very ably represented by Chris Boniface, Al Boyd, Lee Defibaugh, Dave Buttner, Dan Meehan and Ed Reich. Ed pitched all four games. With acknowledgement to Lee for playing all four games despite the hamstring he tweaked in the first game of the day, we did suffer one major causalty. Al cracked his bat in his first at-bat of the last game. There is no doubt that this had a major impact on the outcome of that game. I thank all who participated, with special thanks to Jay for organizing and managing the team, as well as buying the first two rounds at the Bungalow. Anonymous Reports:The high point of the day was watching the Casa Cruisers kill the [expletive deleted team] in the 3:00 game. Jay, [a certain bald headed person] was ejected from the game! The [expletive deleted team] lost their composure and just fell apart. Hilarious! I really hope that they will enjoy their future "B" level experience. Priceless!
