QUITE A DOUBLE PLAY!

Holy Carlton Fisk! John Gulisano tagged out
two runners at the plate in the same play
on Wednesday April 12, 2000 during an Early Bird
Tournament game against CCR-Posse! The play
has been marked in the book as an 8-2-5-4-2 double
play!
Runners were on first and second with one out in
the bottom of the third inning. The batter
smacked a sharp ground ball to left center field
that was quickly scooped up by outfielder Chris
Huckleberry. Chris heaved a screaming bullet
directly to John Gulisano covering the plate.
John made the catch and cut down the runner with
a hard tag that knocked both players to the ground.
The umpire called the runner out.
Third baseman Roger Morse called for the ball as the
other base runner passed second base and made a bee
line to the third base bag. John recovered from the
collision and made a throw to third base, but the
throw was late.
The batter then made a dash to second base from
first, drawing a throw from Roger Morse to Dan
Mitchell covering second base. The throw was also
late.
The runner standing at third base apparently decided
to test Dan Mitchell's throwing accuracy and lit out
toward home plate. Dan fired the ball to John Gulisano
and John cut down his second runner with another nice
tag! Double play!
Quite a feat! Congratulations to Chris Huckleberry
for the great throw from left center, and a
Big Thumbs Up to "Crash" Gulisano for guarding
the plate like a brick wall!
