CLASH OF THE TITANS? U.S. EXPORTERS & HOSERS SPLIT!

Pat Drury
Pitched Two Fine Games

Jeff Donald
Second In Batting Race
----------
The two division leaders (both sporting
identical 12-1-1 records) faced off in a much
anticipated doubleheader at Shirley Park on
June 19.

However, both teams promptly produced the fourth
lowest scoring game ever played in the ten year
history of the U.S. Exporters men's ballclub!
The two teams combined for an anemic total of
only 8 runs as the U.S. Exporters dropped the
opening game of the contest by a score of 5-3.

A two run homer and a sacrifice fly in the
bottom of the sixth inning iced the first game
for the classy Hosers.

Fortunately, The U.S. Exporters were able
to rebound with a strong 15-2 win in the
finale.

So, the evening that had promised to finally
settle the Spring 2001 pennant race served
only to prolong it.

Pat Drury had a splendid evening on the
mound, and he was backed up by some solid
defensive work. Against the Hosers, Pat
recorded two strikeouts, gave up no base on
balls, and pitched a grand total of 8 scoreless
innings. The powerful Hosers team had been
averaging 14.6 runs per game, but this evening
they were held to a total of only 7 runs in
two games as Pat's ERA dipped to 7.57.

Outfielders Greg Mecher, Chris Huckleberry,
Kelvin Foreman, J.D. Daunt, and Erik Lundquist
were kept busy all night long by the Hosers'
big guns, but our guys were able to maintain
their poise despite being backed up against
the warning track on several occasions.

Second baseman Jeff Donald had a solid night
in the field and at the plate. Jeff turned
a pivot on a nifty 6-4-2 double play that
nailed a runner at home in the second game.
Further, Jeff has pounded his way into second
place in the race for the coveted team batting
title by raising his batting average to .654!
Nice work.

The pennant race continues!

Next week we play the powerful Quarterdeck
team in a 6:30 game at Quincy Park.

Trivia Question

When, and against whom, was the LOWEST
SCORING GAME in the history of the U.S.
Exporters men's team played? What was
the score? Where was it played? Who
was the winning U.S. Exporters pitcher?

The answers are below.

Trivia Answer:
The lowest scoring game in U.S. Exporters men's
team history was a 3-0 victory over the Diamond
Doormats on October 7, 1991. The winning pitcher
was Jim Mazur, who pitched our team's first
shutout. The game was played at Guy Mason Field
in the District of Columbia's men's league.--Jay
