U.S. EXPORTERS OUTLAST THE DAWGS

Roger Morse reporting:

The reconstituted U.S. Exporters survived a low-scoring opener to outlast the Dawgs and sweep the doubleheader.

In game 1 Austen Bannan returned to the line-up to replace Roger Morse in the third inning. Roger suffered a devastating “wardrobe malfunction” when the sole of his cleat separated from his shoe after his hit in the second inning. Both teams plodded through the first five innings fighting the sun in the batters’ eyes and with the score tied at 3 all. In the last two innings the Exporters managed to put 3 and 4 runs on the board respectively while the Dawgs could only add one run in each inning. The Exporters won 10 - 5.

In game 2 our bats came alive in a 21 – 8 rout. We jumped out early and never let them back in the game. All of the outfielders made excellent catches.

Appropriately, the game ended on a double play from an outfield fly ball. Brian Bickerton made a difficult catch coming in on the ball in left center and then threw to Drew Thompson catching the runner on second wandering too far off the base. Brian also rallied the team in the second inning by hitting a two-out three-run homer. The Exporters put three more on the board that inning before the Dawgs recorded the third out.
