Roger Morse reporting:

We bounced back from the losses last week to sweep AMG Triple Threat to win the division championship! We won game 1 by a score of 17-16 and Game 2 by a score of 11- 10. Two incredible games were most satisfying to clinch the division title. Better than that, we won both games by a single run in the last inning!

Scott Donofrio was out of the lineup as he was packing for his move to Charlotte. Ron Baptiste had to study for his Board Exams. Drew Thompson had to work late.

The first game was tight throughout the game as AMG slowly chipped away at our lead. In the top of the last inning, they tied the score at 16. But we had the top of our order up. Jim Duffy and Kyle Dabruzzi made two quick outs. We were down to our last out when Kelvin Foreman stepped into the batters box. He laced a single up the middle and waited at first base as Dennis Potter approached the plate.

Dennis blasted a ball into the left field gap that rolled to the fence. It was then that our longest tenured player, Kelvin, turned on the jets that we rarely see now. He blazed around second and dug for third. With the ball still in the outfield, Kelvin was waved home. He put it in a final gear and raced home before the throw to score the winning run. Now it is not Kelvin’s preference to be running from first to home, but with the season’s title on the line, he was not to be denied.

Veteran player Kelvin Foreman proved once again why he is a team leader by going 5 – 5 with two doubles and 4 RBI in that game.

In the second game, the wind was giving Tim Fratto some trouble on the mound and led to several walks. Some good defensive plays limited the runs that AMG could score off of those runners. We jumped out to an early lead and then again watched as AMG chipped away at the lead in the later innings.

In the bottom of the last inning with two outs, they had scored twice already and had the tying run on second and the winning run on first. Tim was able to coax a fly ball to Drew Thompson in left center for the final out and seal the division title.

At 14 – 2 – 1 with only one game left to play, we have clinched the title. The next closest team is Mr. Days who has at least 3 losses and 2 ties already. Our remaining game is against them. My guess is that it won’t be rescheduled since it doesn’t matter.
