Jay Hatfield reporting: Let me simply say that we had fewer people at the final games of the regular season than I had originally expected, but the terrible thunderstorm that blew over the area just before game time undoubtedly made some people believe that the games would be postponed. They weren't. We were undermanned and we were defeated soundly.
SEASON WRAP UPWe are learning to play together. We had our ups and downs, but camaraderie is what recreational sport is all about. I think that we can look back at this past season with some justifiable satisfaction, and we also know that we can be competitive in this league. I believe that one day soon we will challenge for the league title if we continue to work together as a team. The Triple Crown ~ Mike DeStefano won the coveted U.S. Exporters team batting title with a .582 average. Mike also led the team in at bats (55), runs (23), hits (32), and OB% (.661). Jeremy Lewis led the team in RBI (23), and Ron Baptiste finished the season with the most home runs (5). Other category leaders include Max Wagenblast (7 doubles), Kelvin Foreman and Dennis Potter (3 triples), and Roger Morse (10 walks). Kelvin Foreman finished with the team's highest slugging average (.789). On the mound, Kelvin Foreman finished the year with a team leading 5 wins and 9.99 ERA. Glen Maes led the pitching crew with 5 strikeouts. Overall, we finished the regular season with a solid 9-7-2 record and a slot in the post-season tournament.
