Local Observatories

This list represents a sample of the observatories in the D.C. area.

• The Analema Society Observatory Park at Turner Farms in Great Falls, VA, has weekly viewing for members on Fridays.
• The Keeble Observatory, at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA. Public viewings are on Wednesdays.
• The Crosby Ramsey Memorial Observatory at the Maryland Science Center, in Baltimore.
• The United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
• The University of Maryland, Dept. of Astronomy has a lecture, followed by informal observing in College Park, MD., on the 5th and 20th of each month. ADASTRAgrl (Elizabeth Warner) is the director.
• The McCormick and Fan Mountain Observatories of the University of Virginia Dept. of Astronomy. There are public nights every first and third Friday night.

• The WIYN Observatory, near Tuscon, is owned and operated by the WIYN Consortium, which consists of the University of Wisconsin, Indiana University, Yale University, and the National Optical Astronomy Observatories (NOAO).

California

• The Big Bear Solar Observatory , in Big Bear City, operated by the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

• The Griffith Observatory, in Los Angeles.

• The CSI Centennial Observatory, at the Herrett Center for Arts & Sciences, Twin Falls.

• The Goethe Link Observatory (Indiana Uiversity), in Indianapolis, Indiana.
• The Kirkwood Observatory (Indiana Uiversity), in Bloomington, Indiana.
• McKim Observatory, at DePauw Uiversity.

Iowa

• Erwin Fick Observatory, at Iowa State University, Ames.
• McCollum Science Hall Observatory, at University of Northern Iowa.

• The Stars' End Observatory, for mid-coast Maine.

Maryland

• The Joint Center for Astrophysics, at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, is open for public viewing on the first Thursday of every month.

Massachusetts

• Amherst College Wilder Observatory, at Amherst.
• Harvard College Observatory, in Cambridge.
• Judson B. Coit Observatory, at Boston University, Boston.

Michigan

• The McMath Hulbert Observatory, in Lake Angelus (outside of Pontiac).
• The University of Michigan's McMath Telescope at Peach Mountain, used by the University Lowbrow Astronomers, in Ann Arbor.
• Northwestern Michigan College Joseph H. Rogers Observatory.
• Eastern Michigan University Sherzer Observatory, in Ypsilanti.

Mississippi

• The Rainwater Observatory, in French Camp.

New Jersey

• The Paul Robinson Observatory in Voorhess State Park.
