Some (but not all) version of the Teleport Control Panel, the Teleport Serial control panels and the PowerPort PC Card control panel, there is a setting labeled "Maximum Throughput."

Getting to it

1. Go to the menu, select Control Panels, and then select Teleport (or Teleport Serial or PowerPort PC Card- whichever is there). You should see this:
   

2. On some versions of the software (like the example here) there is a setting labeled "Maximum Throughput" (if the setting is there, the modem is one of the Platinum modems) If it's checked, the modem will attempt to connect at 115,200bps. Uncheck it.
