(47) 3- MATTHEW ARMSTRONG JR. AND MARY MARINER MARRIED APRIL 23, 1816 Son of Matthew Armstrong and Margaret Shipley Sloan Matthew Armstrong Jr. was born 1787 and died February 20, 1870. He was married to Mary Mariner who was born 1788 and died March 23, 1870. There were seven children-James, Margaret Shipley, John, Mary Adelaide, Sallie, Matthew 3rd and Naomi Children 1- James Armstrong went to Florida before the Civil War. He did'nt serve because of being cripple. He made salt for the Confederacy. He died November 1, 1882. He was married to Matilda Jackson of Oakland, Florida who died April 1891. There were four children- Mary Ella, George, Agnes Idele, and John 1- Mary Ella Armstrong taught in several colleges 2- George Armstrong went to Texas to live 3- Agnes Idelle married Andrew Smith Jr. (cousin) 4- John Armstrong married Terrie Armstrong (cousin) * 2- Margaret Shipley 'Peggy' Armstrong married Andrew Leeper (cousin) on April 29, 1843. She was born March 5, 1819 and died June 20, 1882. Andrew was born January 29, 1821 and died December 8, 1869. There were three children- James, Mary Elvira and Andrew A. (see seperate pages for this family line) 3- John 'Jack' Armstrong married Vicky West on February 27, 1845. There were six children- Charles B., William, Laura, Mary, Clarissa and Margaret. 1- Col, C.B. Armstrong married Doras Jenkins 2- William Armstrong married Sarah Hoffman 3- Laura Armstrong married John Ragan 4- Mary Armstrong married Richman Young 5- Clarissa Armstrong 6- Margaret Armstrong married T.M. Bradley 4- Mary Adelaide Armstrong married Burrell Fite. There were nine children. 1- Margaret Fite 6- Nancy Fite 2- Matthew Fite 7- Rufus Fite 3- Lawson Fite 8- Jerry Fite 4- Charles Fite 9- Edward Fite 5- Mary Melinda Fite 5- Sallie Armstrong married Andrew Smith 1- Andrew Smith Jr. married Agnes Idelle Armstrong (cousin) 6- Matthew Armstrong 3rd married Lou Freeman in Florida where had gone with his older brother. There were three children-Walter, Eugene and Agnes 1- Walter Armstrong 2- Eugene Armstrong was a prominent doctor in Los Angeles, California 3- Agnes Armstrong married Benjamin Blitch of Blitchfield, Florida * 7- Naomi Armstrong born April 8, 1824 and died December 4, 1908 was married on February 15, 1845 to James Leeper (cousin) who was born May 5, 1826 and died September 16, 1888. Their children were- Andrew, James, Margaret, Robert, Alice, Esther, Julia, Lodemia and Leroy (see seperate pages for this family line)
